16-Year-Old Boy Killed in Shooting at Oklahoma Football Game

Gunfire erupted at an Oklahoma high school football game Friday night, sending players and spectators alike scattering and leaving a 16-year-old boy dead.

Officials said the dead boy was not a student at either of the schools involved in the game in Choctaw between Del City and Choctaw High Schools.

The Choctaw Police Department said two other people were shot: a 42-year-old man who was shot in the chest and was in stable condition at the hospital and a “young female” who was shot in the thigh and treated and released. Two other “females” were injured in the rush to flee the scene, sustaining broken wrists and a broken leg.

Choctaw police said the shooting took place on the Del City side of Bill Jensen Field and appeared to have stemmed from an argument between “at least two males.” One of two off-duty Del City police officers working security for the game discharged his weapon, police said, but it wasn’t clear if he struck anyone. Five off-duty Choctaw officers were working the game, along with two on-duty officers who had stopped by.

The Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Choctaw Police Department in the investigation.

“Investigators have been given a description of a tall B/M wearing red sweatpants as a person of interest,” Choctaw police said. “Two guns and eight rounds were recovered at the scene.”

Multiple officials issued statements releasing their “thoughts and prayers” about the incident, local media reported.
