An East Texas girl has been charged with criminal conspiracy for plotting with another girl to kill their families and run away together to Georgia.
Investigators were called to a residence in Weatherford, just west of Fort Worth, at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday and found a 12-year-old girl in the street with a gunshot wound to the head. Deputies found a handgun underneath her, the Parker County Sheriff’s Office said.
Inside the home, they found the girl’s 38-year-old father with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Both were taken to hospitals by air ambulance and remain hospitalized in unknown condition.
Investigators said they believe the girl shot her father and then fled the scene and shot herself.
As deputies investigated, they learned that the Weatherford girl planned to “murder her family and pets” and that she had plotted for weeks with another girl — from Lufkin, 200 miles southeast of Fort Worth — to kill their families and run away together. The Weatherford girl was supposed to drive to Lufkin and pick up the other girl before they headed to Georgia.
The Lufkin girl, however, didn’t go through with the plan. She has been charged with criminal conspiracy in Parker County, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office is not releasing the names of the juveniles or the adults involved, Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier said.
“Due to the injuries, the age of the juveniles and the sensitive case matter, information released regarding this case will be limited,” Authier said.
It’s unclear how the two girls knew one another. Parker County did not release the Lufkin girl’s age.
Lufkin Police are also investigating.
