A 12-year-old girl has been charged in an acid attack on an 11-year-old girl at a Detroit playground this week.
The girl was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault for the July 9 attack, according to prosecutor Kym Worthy, WXYZ reported.
“This is an extremely troubling set of allegations. Instant horrible decision making can have lifelong effects on others. There is no excuse for this, “ Worthy said.
According to WDIV, the attack happened at a playground attached to Vernor Elementary School in Detroit. The incident began, according to the victim’s family, when two girls in their early teens — one of them the victim’s cousin — got into a fight.
The victim’s family said that the 12-year-old girl’s mother handed her a bottle filled with some kind of liquid, which she then threw at the victim, her cousins, and her siblings. The victim ran home after the attack and was taken to Children’s Hospital, where she spent three days being treated for severe burns to her back, legs, and arms.

The 12-year-old was in court for a preliminary hearing on Saturday and was given a $10,000 bond with a tether and ordered to have no contact with the victim or witnesses.
She will return to court on July 18.
