The FBI says they have found the 10-month-old New Mexico girl who was abducted Friday after her mother and another woman were murdered.
Margot Cravens, spokeswoman for the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Division, said Monday morning the girl is alive and a suspect is in custody. That was the only information contained in the press release and more details will be sent out later, she said.
Police in Clovis, located in eastern New Mexico near the border with Texas, responded around 4:30 p.m. Friday after a 911 caller found two women shot to death near a silver Dodge minivan in Ned Houk Park. Cops also found a 5-year-old girl alive with an gunshot wound to her head. Paramedics rushed the girl to the hospital in nearby Lubbock, Texas, where she is continuing to receive treatment.
On scene, police found an infant car seat, stroller and a small baby bottle which led them to believe a baby was missing. A search of the immediate area turned up empty.
Detectives identified the two dead women as Samantha “Harley” Cisneros and Taryn Allen, both 23. After speaking with the victim’s family, they later learned Cisneros is the mother of the child found on scene and 10-month-old Eleia Maria Torres, who cops believed was abducted by the killer. Law enforcement issued an Amber Alert for Eleia.
Cops said at a Sunday press conference that the two women made the 15-minute drive from their home in Texico to Clovis where they stopped for food before going to a Dollar Tree store. It’s unclear why they stopped at the park.
Police have not released any information about who they arrested but said Sunday the fathers of the two children are cooperating and are not believed to be suspects.
