Frank Lampard has dubbed Liverpool transfer target Mason Mount as a ‘huge player’ after he returned to Chelsea as a caretaker manager on Thursday.
The Chelsea legend replaces Graham Potter until the end of the season and he has a lot of issues to deal with at the struggling Champions League club.
One topic on his list will be the situation around Mason Mount, who is wanted by several Premier League clubs, including Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool – it has been suggested that ‘positive’ talks have been held with the Merseyside club.

It was under Frank Lampard that Mount showcased himself to the world, at first, he shone on loan at Derby County, before he thrived in his first full season at Stamford Bridge.
From then on, the 24-year-old has, not only become an England international but months after Lampard was sacked by then-owner Roman Abramovich in January 2021, he went on to become a European Cup winner under Thomas Tuchel.
Now the legendary midfielder has returned to familiar shores with Chelsea sitting 11th in the Premier League table and he was asked about the future of Mount, whilst speaking in his press conference.
“I don’t know enough about it to talk about it,” said Lampard. “It would probably be wrong for me to delve into anything other than Mason has always been a fantastic player for me.
“From my days at Derby, the impact he had there to when I came back to Chelsea. It’s been an absolute pleasure to have watched him, amongst others that I coached during that period, in terms of Reece James, Tammy Abraham and Tomori, who have gone on to be huge players, either here or elsewhere.

“With Mason, he’s had a few slight injury problems maybe. We need to speak to him and find out where he is at. But I know what I get from Mason, so in that terms, I just want to see him perform on the pitch.
“And, of course, we have a good relationship, so we will talk a lot. I think he is a huge player for Chelsea and he has been in his time here, so I look forward to talking with him more.”

MOUNT HAS A BIG CALL TO MAKE
Unless Chelsea pull off some sort of madness in the Champions League itself, from now until the end of the season, more than likely, Mount won’t be playing in that competition next season.
The England international will feel a player of his calibre should be playing against the elite, which increases the chances of him leaving his boyhood club in the summer, but he can, of course, want to fight to get them back on top.
But that will mean having a clear plan for the future, as of this moment, not even Todd Boehly knows who will manage Chelsea next season.
