WrestleMania has only been pre-recorded once
Since its inception WrestleMania has only ever been pre-recorded once. That occurred in 2020 with WrestleMania 36 after the coronavirus pandemic canceled most of the sporting calendar.
Not wanting to be defeated, the WWE managed to stage WrestleMania that year, albeit behind closed doors and without any fans in attendance.
The event was originally scheduled to be held at the Raymond James Stadium on April 5, but restrictions administered from a national level caused WWE to cancel this and switch it over to the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
As a result of the pandemic, the event was split over two nights and the action was taped beforehand. Thankfully that’s now a thing of the past and WrestleMania can be watched live with thousands of people in attendance.
