According to the publication, Buscemi said her cause of death was encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis. She had also undergone treatment for ovarian cancer.
Per the National Library of Medicine, encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis “is a devastating but, fortunately, rare complication of long-term peritoneal dialysis.”
“The disease is associated with extensive thickening and fibrosis of the peritoneum resulting in the formation of a fibrous cocoon encapsulating the bowel leading to intestinal obstruction,” it continues.

Per the outlet, the police department’s public information office said the crime occurred just before noon.
When police arrived, they found Buscemi “with bruising, swelling and bleeding to his left eye,” per NBC News.
The actor was stable when emergency services took him to a hospital, where he was treated for his injuries, according to the publication.
“Steve Buscemi was assaulted in Mid-Town Manhattan, another victim of a random act of violence in the city,” Buscemi’s publicist wrote in an email statement, per NBC News.
“He is ok and appreciates everyone’s well wishes, though incredibly sad for everyone that this has happened to while also walking the streets of NY.”
According to police, an investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.
