Who is Sutton Foster’s husband, Ted Griffin?

Ted Griffin is an American screenwriter, producer, and director.

He was born on December 21, 1970, in Pasadena, California.

Griffin’s brother, Nicholas, is also a screenwriter.

His maternal grandparents, William A. Seiter and Marian Nixon, were also in the industry.

Seiter was a film director, working with stars like Shirley Temple, Fred Astaire, Henry Fonda, John Wayne, Rita Hayworth, and Lucille Ball.

He directed dozens of films throughout his lifetime, including The Family Secret, The Beautiful and Damned, Sons of the Desert, and Hot Saturday, which also happened to be Cary Grant’s first role as a leading man.

Nixon was an American film actress, appearing in over 70 films throughout her lifetime.

She starred in movies including Cupid’s Fireman, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, Pilgrimage, and Captain Calamity.

Griffin graduated from New York’s Colgate University in 1993.

He began his Hollywood career in 1996, appearing in the movie Puddle Cruiser.

He then wrote Ravenous, a 1999 horror Western cannibal film starring Guy Pearce, Jeffrey Jones, and David Arquette.

He also wrote a crime drama film, Best Laid Plans, in 1999, starring Reese Witherspoon and Josh Brolin.

Griffin broke through the scene after writing the 2001 heist comedy, Ocean’s Eleven.

The movie, directed by Steven Soderbergh, featured an ensemble cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Casey Affleck, Andy Garcia, and Bernie Mac.

He also wrote the 2003 film, Matchstick Men, starring Nicolas Cage and Sam Rockwell.

Griffin also wrote the 2005 movie Rumor Has It, directed by Rob Reiner and starring Jennifer Aniston, Mark Ruffalo, Kevin Costner, and Shirley MacLaine.

He wrote the 2010 film Killers, starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, and the 2011 movies Tower Heist and Prom.

While more famous for his film screenplays, Griffin has also written for the silver screen.

He’s written several TV episodes for the FX drama The Shield, and the FX crime comedy-drama noir Terriers.

Griffin was also co-producer on Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film, Wolf of Wall Street.

A longtime friend of Scorsese, Griffin made a cameo appearance in the film alongside Kyle Chandler as an FBI agent, Agent Hughes.

In 2015, Griffin wrote Solace, a mystery thriller film starring Anthony Hopkins, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Colin Farrell, and Abbie Cornish.

Griffin’s most recent role was serving as the executive producer of Pretend It’s a City, a documentary series directed by Scorsese.

Scorsese’s 2021 doc, released on Netflix, features conversations and interviews between Scorsese and Fran Lebowitz, following the duo around as they walk around – and talk about – New York City.

Lebowitz is known for her writing, public speaking, and acting careers.

Since then, Griffin has switched gears, spending more of his time with his wife, Sutton Foster, and their daughter.

How many children do Sutton Foster and Ted Griffin have?

Sutton Foster and Ted Griffin are the parents of one child.

Their daughter, Emily, was born on March 5, 2017.

Foster officially confirmed that she and Griffin had adopted a daughter in April 2017.

Foster opened up about her family’s adoption journey in her book, Hooked: How Crafting Saved My Life.

She discusses how she and Griffin initially tried fertility treatments to get pregnant, which didn’t work.

She wrote: “I had just gone through a second round of IVF, and I had this massive breakdown in our hotel room.”

“I had always come from this place where, if I wanted to make something happen, I’d make it happen.”

“And it just doesn’t work that way with trying to get pregnant or even creating a family: It comes to everyone in different ways, and I couldn’t force it to happen.”

Foster and Griffin eventually decided to pursue adoption, ready to take on the challenging process.

As reported by People, Foster said: “You really had to ask yourself a lot of questions, really sit down and think about it.”

“You’re adopting this child, but you are also adopting a whole other family. This child comes with a whole other story and that’s part of your life now, too.”

Foster also revealed that it was helpful to have a community she could turn to that could relate to what the couple had gone through.

She credits her co-star in the musical, The Music Man, Hugh Jackman, for being there to “talk about [adoption] a ton.”

Jackman is also a dad of two adopted children.

Foster even offered future parents some advice on the adoption process, saying: “When pursuing adoption, it’s all about letting go and trusting that everyone’s journey is different.”

“You have to just be completely open. You have to completely let go and just trust the journey. But it’s a beautiful one.”

As for navigating life with an almost seven-year-old, Foster admits that it’s challenging but rewarding.

In a 2019 interview with US Weekly, she revealed that she and Griffin “plan these surprise dates for each other, and the only rule is that you can’t say no,” to keep their romance alive.

“We try to be very gentle about it. … He planned a date for me once where we took a Latin jazz class at Lincoln Center.”

“Then he took me to go listen to jazz music at Dizzy’s, which is at the Time Warner Center, and we had dinner at this fabulous place that we’d never gone to.”

How many times has Sutton Foster been married?

Ted Griffin isn’t Sutton Foster’s first husband.

Foster was first married to Christian Borle, whom she met while the two were in college.

They officially tied the knot on September 18, 2006.

Like Foster, Borle is also an American actor and singer.

He has been nominated for five Tony awards, including for his roles as Emmett in Legally Blonde, Joe in Some Like It Hot, and William Shakespeare in Something Rotten!

The couple ultimately got divorced in 2009.

Foster and Borle’s divorce was amicable, and the duo remain friends, regularly supporting each other’s work on the stage and the screen.

Following her divorce, Foster was set up on a blind date with screenwriter Ted Griffin.

The couple hit it off, and by August 2013, Foster and Griffin got engaged.

Foster confirmed the duo were engaged on September 19, 2013.

The two married on October 25, 2014, in a private ceremony in Santa Barbara.

Foster even documented her wedding dress-shopping experience on TLC’s hit TV series, Say Yes to the Dress.

As for knowing which dress was the one, Foster told People that the dress made her feel “different,” saying: “I felt very confident and knew that it was the first dress I had tried on that felt ‘right.’”

She added: “It just had all of the elements of all the other dresses I had tried on, but all in one dress.”
