Who is Tatum O’Neal?
Tatum Beatrice O’Neal, born in Los Angeles, California on November 5, 1963, is an American actress and the daughter of Hollywood star Ryan O’Neal, who sadly passed away at the age of 82 on December 8, 2023.
O’Neal starred in movies including The Bad News Bears (1976), Nickelodeon (1976) and Little Darlings (1980).
She has also appeared in TV shows such as Sex and the City, 8 Simple Rules and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
Tatum is best known for her role as Addie Loggins in the road comedy-drama movie Paper Moon (1973), which she starred in alongside her father Ryan.
In April 1974 she won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance in Paper Moon — making her the youngest person to win an Academy Award at just 10 years old.
In 2004 Tatum detailed her dysfunctional relationship with her father in her autobiography, A Paper Life.
Why were Ryan O’Neal and Tatum estranged?
Tatum and Ryan had a well-documented difficult relationship, with Tatum accusing her father of physical and emotional abuse, as well as claiming he introduced her and younger brother Griffin to drugs.
She said her decades-long estrangement from her father began not long after the start of his relationship with Farrah Fawcett.
Ryan reunited with his estranged daughter and grandchildren for the first time in 17 years in September 2020.
The two showed off their bond as father and daughter in the movie Paper Moon, but things only went downhill from there.

In 2010 O’Neal told People Fawcett’s death in 2009 played “a very big role” in their reconciliation.
“She brought us back together,” Tatum said.
She also revealed it was her father who extended the olive branch.
“He told me he’s sorry. He’s all I have in terms of family, and I needed him in my life,” she shared at the time.
“My dad was absolutely everything to me.”
Does Tatum O’Neal have any children?
O’Neal shares three children — Kevin, 37, Sean, 35, and Emily, 32 — with her ex-husband John McEnroe.
The pair tied the knot back in 1986, but ended up divorcing in 1994.
Four years later, McEnroe was awarded sole custody of their kids due to O’Neal’s drug issues.
On September 13, 2020 Sean McEnroe posted a family photo of him with his mother Tatum and grandfather Ryan, alongside his siblings Kevin and Emily.
The caption read: “This is one of the most memorable photos of my life. The last time we were all together was at the 30-year Paper Moon Anniversary in 2003.”
It continued: “I could cry tears of gratitude that everyone in this photo is still alive and that we were all able to come together again after so many years of hardship.
