SHEFF G – AKA Michael Kyle Williams – is an American rapper who rose to fame after the release of his 2017 single No Suburban.
The song caused quite the stir as it dissed fellow rapper 22Gz – causing a dramatic clash. Here’s what we know.
Who is Michael Kyle Williams aka Sheff G?
Sheff G was born in New York on September 23, 1998.
He grew up in Brooklyn and was inspired to rap by listening to the Notorious B.I.G. and Chicago drill rappers like Lil Bibby and Chief Keef.
Before getting into music and signing with RCA records Sheff G joined the 83 (Eight Trey) Gangsta Crips aged 12, and was banged up for two years following a felony gun charge.
In 2015, he went back to prison for robbery for a further two years and was released in 2017.
In 2023, the rapper was yet again jailed having been sentenced to two years inside after pleading guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree in November 2021.
He was released on April 19 and has been active on his Instagram ever since.
Sheff G’s single – No Suburban – took the music world by storm and he was credited as one of the pioneers of the Brooklyn drill music movement.
But the star’s music career was not all smooth sailing as the hit track was a response to a rap called Suburban by 22Gz’s – aka – Jeffrey Mark Alexander.
The pair were reportedly arguing as they both competed to win fans and get more views.
22Gz wrote on Twitter at the time: “All beef aside, I feel sorry for boy.”
He added: “This type of stuff is the reason I move with who I move with and move the way we move.
“Becoming another casualty isn’t that plan for any of us. Sleep in peace to homie. May his family find peace in all of this madness.”
