Who is Ice Spice?
Born on January 1, 2000, in the Bronx, New York City, Isis Naija Gaston, more popularly known as Ice Spice, is an American rapper.
She grew up in the Bronx but moved to Yonkers when she was in high school to study at a Catholic private school.
She attended SUNY Purchase where she majored in communications and was part of the volleyball team.
However, she dropped out during her sophomore year to focus on building a music career.
Her breakthrough came in 2021 when her video doing the Buss It challenge went viral on social media, particularly TikTok and Twitter.
She then capitalized on her online fame and released the song Munch, which ended up on several music charts.
In February 2023, she was featured on PinkPantheress’ song, Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2, which rose to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Ice Spice has also collaborated with several artists, including Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.
Who is Ice Spice’s dad, Joseph Gaston?
Ice Spice’s dad, Joseph Gaston, used to be an underground rapper, whose stage name she refuses to share.
“You couldn’t find it for a reason — he’s such a private person, and that’s not even his lifestyle anymore,” she told Variety.
Gaston now works in real estate, but he was the one who introduced Spice to her musical heroes.
She discovered artists like Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Wu-Tang Clan, and Jadakiss thanks to him.

In an interview with Paper Magazine, Spice said that she would tag along on her dad’s trips to the studio when she was younger.
“He definitely inspired me to want to record,” she shared.
“I remember being in the studio with him. I was a toddler, probably. And I remember little flashes. Of course, not every detail, but small things like that being shown to you at such a young age make an impression on you.
“Subconsciously, I ended up becoming an artist because I saw my father be one first. He’s a music lover himself. He’s a true hip-hop head, beyond me, honestly.
“He knows everything. He’s always educating me on hip-hop and shit like that.”
Apart from music influences, Spice shared that her dad helped her love her famous curls.
“I think my father helped me get past it [insecurities], because he would always say, “It’s beautiful, you’re beautiful, wear your natural hair,” she told Interview Magazine.

When did Ice Spice’s parents get divorced?
Ice Spice’s parents parted ways when she was just two years old.
“My parents were separated when I was two, and I have five siblings. I’m the oldest,” she shared with Interview.
“It’s all separated. My parents had me and then they split up and had their own kids.”
But Spice is close to both, as she split her time between her mom and dad’s houses, which were not far from each other in the Bronx.
“She had me at 17 so we kind of grew up together. She gives me sister vibes and she’s a little crazy, but I’m thankful because that’s why I am who I am. It’s chaotic but we love each other down,” she said of her mom.
“My father, he’s more leveled, which is also why I feel like I am the way that I am. So I’m grateful for both, they’re a perfect combination.”
