Who is Humza Yousaf’s wife Nadia El-Nakla and how many kids do they have?

As Humza Yousaf became the new SNP leader, we learn more about his wife Nadia El-Nakla, their kids, and their family together.

Humza Yousaf is set to succeed Nicola Sturgeon and become Scotland’s next First Minister after winning the SNP leadership.

Yousaf managed to win over finance secretary Kate Forbes after earning 52.1 per cent of the vote of SNP members in the second round of voting.

Who is Humza Yousaf’s wife Nadia El-Nakla?

Nadia El-Nakla is 39 years old and was born in Scotland to a Palestinian father. She has family in Gaza as her brother and his wife currently live there.

She is a psychotherapist and was elected an SNP councillor for the West End of Dundee in May 2022. El-Nakla previously worked as an aide for Scottish health minister Shona Robison.

At the time of her election, she said: “I really want to take this time in the next five years to invest in women and get them into politics because in the Broughty Ferry ward I don’t think we’ve ever seen a female councillor in I don’t know how long.”

Yousaf and El-Nakla have been married since 2019 and live in Broughty Ferry, a suburb located four miles east of Dundee.

How many kids do they have?

Yousaf and El-Nakla welcomed one child together, a daughter named Amal. El-Nakla has another daughter from a previous relationship.

Meanwhile, this isn’t Yousaf’s first marriage. He was previously married to former SNP worker Gail Lythgoe from 2010 to 2016.

Now that Yousaf is set to become Scotland’s next First Minister, his wife, and family will be in the media and public spotlight a lot more.

Yousaf mentions his wife and kids in speech

After being confirmed as the winner of the SNP leadership election, Yousaf shared a few words about his family in his speech.

In his speech, Yousaf expressed his gratitude to his wife, their daughters, and campaign staff, calling them all “very special people”.

“I wouldn’t be standing here today if it wasn’t for the support, encouragement, and hard work of a number of people,” he said.

Yousaf went on to thank his “amazing wife” and added that she is the “compass who helps guide me through the most difficult of times”.
