Zendaya’s parents, Kazembe Ajamu Coleman and Claire Stoermer, welcomed the now-megastar on September 1, 1996, in Oakland, California.
According to People, Claire works as a schoolteacher.
“Growing up, I watched my mom teach in the heart of Oakland, California, at inner-city schools that were always underfunded,” Zendaya told Teen Vogue in 2016.
“My mom went above and beyond, working constantly to open her students’ eyes to an education that could lift them far beyond their current circumstances,” the Euphoria star continued.
“She would introduce them to the arts, guide them through the language of Shakespeare, and show them the wonders of nature outside city life — all things that they wouldn’t have experienced otherwise.
“Watching her was magical; it instilled within me a true appreciation of and devotion to the importance of education. If I wasn’t in entertainment, I’d be a teacher in a heartbeat — guaranteed!”
Claire also created the jewelry line, Kizzmet Jewelry, which has 42,000 followers on its Instagram page, @kizzmetjewelry.
According to People, Kazembe also worked as a teacher but has worked as a manager for Zendaya “in recent years.”
While speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2016, The Greatest Showman actress credited her parents for her “core values.”
“I gotta give it up to my parents. I’m really lucky to have the parents that I have. They just have always instilled in me those core values that I think I have to carry with me through everything. I give it up to them, I give it up to my family,” she said.
Are Zendaya’s parents still together?
While Kazembe and Claire are no longer together, they remain friends.
On August 30, 2016, Zendaya took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to address the news that her parents had broken up.

Zendaya is the only biological child of Claire and Kazembe, though she has five older stepsiblings from the latter’s previous marriage.
According to People, she has three older sisters, including Katianna, Annabella, and Kaylee, as well as two older brothers, Austin and Julien.

“As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized my true models are my parents. My mom is like a sheroe. My dad is so strong. I look up to my big sister and realize the influence she’s had on me and making me a better person,” she said.
