Tim Sherwood thinks Serge Aurier showcased why Tottenham Hotspur booted him out of the door following his performance for Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The 30-year-old returned to north London at the weekend and he was partly to blame for Tottenham’s third goal scored by Son Heung-min during Forest’s 3-1 defeat.
During the game, Son was joking around when he proceeded to bounce the ball off Aurier’s head as he was taking a throw-in.

But, when Richarlison floated in a cross in the second half following a clearance, Aurier was on his tip-toes and he wasn’t close enough to stop Son from scoring.
It was a defensive lapse by the right-back and it’s what Spurs fans saw time and time again during Aurier’s time at the club.
That was touched upon by Tim Sherwood and Owen Hargreaves, who were critical of the player, as they told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (11/03/23 at 8:35 pm).
“Richarlison, instrumental again, he finds the pass (to Son),” said Sherwood. “I am not sure what Serge Aurier is doing there.
“That’s probably why he hasn’t got a white shirt on anymore. He has found himself at Nottingham Forest, but it’s a wonderful finish from Sonny.

“But Serge Aurier talk to me about this defending?!”
Hargreaves responded: “He used to do it a lot in a Spurs shirt. I think Sonny probably read him and exactly what he was going to do. I love that from Son. He reads the picture.”

TOTTENHAM SEARCHING FOR THAT RIGHT-BACK
During the summer of 2021, Tottenham opted to tear up Aurier’s contract and he proceeded to leave the club on a free transfer.
It was the right call from Spurs because it just didn’t work out for the £35k-a-week Forest star (Spotrac) at Hotspur Way.
But that’s been the story for many right-backs at the club, including the recently departed Matt Doherty, and the rejuvenated Emerson Royal, all struggling, with fans hoping January signing, Pedro Porro, will now change all of that.
