What did Gary Lineker tweet? Many have been keen to know as the Match of the Day host receives a talking to from the BBC.
The 62-year-old commented on the United Kingdom Government’s new Stop the Boats campaign, with his tweet drawing “disappointment” from Home Secretary Suella Braverman.
So, what did Lineker tweet? Let’s take a look…
What did Gary Lineker tweet?
Well, the former England international wrote the following on Twitter in response to the Home Office’s video about their Stop the Boats campaign.
“Good heavens, this is beyond awful.”
When told he was being “out of order” by a responder in a now deleted tweet, Lineker added: “There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries. This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?”

What did Suella Braverman think of Gary Lineker’s tweet?
In response to Lineker’s tweet, Braverman told BBC One‘s Breakfast: “I’m disappointed, obviously. I think it’s unhelpful to compare our measures, which are lawful, proportionate and – indeed – compassionate, to 1930s Germany. I also think that we are on the side of the British people here.”
After many sided with Lineker, the Match of the Day host revealed his gratitude in another tweet, which reads: “I have never known such love and support in my life than I’m getting this morning (England World Cup goals aside, possibly). I want to thank each and every one of you. It means a lot. I’ll continue to try and speak up for those poor souls that have no voice. Cheers all.”
