Liverpool FC v Real Madrid - UEFA Champions League Final 2021/22

Harry Redknapp has urged Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur to sign Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric.

The former Tottenham boss thinks ‘you can still get two years’ out of the 37-year-old, who helped Carlo Ancelotti’s side knock Liverpool out of the Champions League on Wednesday night, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (16/03/23).

Modric, who worked under Redknapp during their days at Tottenham, is proof that age is just a number because, even at his age, he is proving to be one of the best players in the world.

The proof was showcased last season when Real Madrid saw past Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool to secure European glory for the 14th time in their rich and trophy-winning history.

Even at the most recent World Cup in Qatar, he was weaving his magic with his quick-thinking play, precision passing and ability to control a game at will.

Nonetheless, when talking about his former player, Harry Redknapp backed either Liverpool or Spurs to snap him up, with his current Madrid contract due to expire in the summer.

“What a player,” said Redknapp. “You come in during the mornings and you have a piggy. After four years, I said ‘I don’t think I have ever seen you go in the middle, Luka’. You know when you give the ball away, you have to go in the middle.

“He never gave it away. What a great lad. I tell you what. Is he out of contract at the end of the year? I think they are discussing whether they are going to give him another deal.

“I tell you what. You would take him, even if you were someone like Liverpool. Take him back to Tottenham. He would come in and he is so great around the place. He plays every minute of every game. And he is still a fantastic player. You would get two years out of him.”

MODRIC IS ONE OF THE GREATS

When the Croatia star decides to hang up his boots, he will go down as one of the all-time greats of the game.

Not only that, he is a prime example that you can still become one of the best in the world, even if you develop late and have a big stumble during your career.

Back in 2012, Real Madrid signed Modric from Spurs and he proceeded to struggle, big time, in his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu, but the rest is now history.
