Tottenham vs Brighton: Jeff Stelling left blown away by Cristian Romero

Jeff Stelling lavished praise on to Cristian Romero as Tottenham Hotspur beat Brighton & Hove Albion in a 2-1 victory at home.

However, the £42.5 million (Football.London) man was a colossus at the back, reminding the world of why he is hailed as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

Jeff Stelling, keeping that in mind was left blown away by Cristian Romero for Tottenham Hotspur against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The World Cup winner’s defending was nothing short of magnificent throughout the game, as he was especially touch-tight on Kaoru Mitoma during the contest.

While Romero has justifiably been slated for Spurs since returning from Qatar, getting reckless red cards and making schoolboy errors, he redeemed himself in a game where their top four hopes could have been impacted.

Jeff Stelling was a fan of how Cristian Romero performed for Tottenham against Brighton on Sky Sports, reacting to his display by saying, “Romero- what a man!”

Cristian Stellini and his troops will need such performances from the titanic centre-back to confirm their places in the Champions League next season.

HITC View: If Romero controls some of his instincts, he could become elite

Since arriving from the Italian top-flight, the 24-year-old has been extremely reliable in defence for the London-based club.

But it is worth acknowledging that he has a tendency to be rather reckless due to his frontfooted style of defending.

However, Jeff Stelling was right in praising the lionhearted defender for Tottenham against Brighton, as he was well and truly unplayable on the night for his side.

Romero has demonstrated on a number of occasions that on his day, he ticks a number of boxes to develop into an elite centre-half, and as he continues to learn his craft over the years, that should not be a hot take.
