After Southampton got knocked out of the FA Cup by Grimsby Town on Wednesday, Theo Walcott has bluntly reacted to the crushing 2-1 defeat on Instagram.
While Duje Caleta Car pulled one back for Ruben Selles’ side in the 65th minute, it was too little, too late as the League Two side went through to the quarter-final of the competition to face Brighton & Hove Albion.
Theo Walcott, much like any and everyone associated with Southampton came across understandably livid on Instagram after Southampton lost to Grimsby Town in the FA Cup.
Walcott reacts after Southampton exit the FA Cup after Grimsby Town disaster
Considering the Saints are languishing in 20th in the Premier League, the fanbase would understandably have been itching for the side to at least enjoy a deep cup run. Considering the quality of opposition that they faced at the St. Mary’s, a place in the quarter-final should have been virtually guaranteed.
However, a Gavan Holohan brace meant Grimsby Town did the unthinkable by defeating Southampton in the FA Cup, as Theo Walcott chose not to mince his words on Instagram.
“Last night was unacceptable. No excuses”, the former Everton forward said.
Refreshing Instagram statement from Theo Walcott
Often, footballers have a tendency to promise their club’s fanbase that their side will come back stronger after a humiliating result.
However, Theo Walcott chose not to go in that direction and said it as it is on Instagram, as there is no sugar-coating just how much of a shocking result it was for Southampton to get beaten by Grimsby Town in the FA Cup.

While the Saints have been the worst team in the league as the table suggests, being a Premier League team, it is not a case of overburdening them with expectations to make light work of a League Two side.
And Walcott certainly needs no reminder about this very reality.
