The internet is saddened by the recent news of virtual YouTuber Amano Pikamee’s graduation.
Internet personality and streamer Amano Pikamee is a popular virtual YouTuber operating under VOMS Project. Founded by GYARI (known as Cocoa Cigarette-P or Hagari Hajime) a Vocaloid musician and producer, VOMS Project is a group of VTubers initially set up in September 2019.
After a series of auditions and a recruitment period, VOMS began producing a variety of content featuring different personalities like Amano Pikamee.
Pikamee’s account was created in February 2020, although she didn’t begin streaming on the internet platform YouTube until March 2020. Her content ranges from live streaming popular video games like Grand Theft Auto to personal posts thanking her viewers. By November 2020, she had reached 300,000 subscribers. She currently has over 600,000 subscribers.
Amano Pikamee declares graduation
The term ‘graduation’ in the VTuber community means retirement. Amano Pikamee shocked the internet recently with her graduation announcement, leaving many of her fans reeling.
The pre-recorded video, which was posted on the VTuber’s official YouTube page on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, depicts Amano Pikamee in her bedroom, addressing the camera directly.
In the video, she announces she will be ending all her activities on the platform and thanks VOMS, and her viewers, for their support.
“I, Amano Pikamee, will end all activities at the end of this month, March 31st in Japan time.” She apologizes for the shocking news, adding that all content and streams posted on the channel will be deleted after her final stream on March 31.
Pikamee is not the first VTuber to retire, as Noctyx Yugo Asuma made a sudden exit from the community a few months prior.
A statement from VOMS Project
VOMS Project took to the social media site Twitter to share a statement about Pikamee’s recent announcement.
In the statement, VOMS express their ‘deepest gratitude’ to their viewers. Further stating how they discussed the decision with Pikamee herself and “in respect of her wishes”, have decided to be grateful and honor the decision.
They continue: “We hope you will continue to support Amano Pikamee until the end”.
