"Visibly uncomfortable": 30-year-old now struggling after asking to leave Liverpool

Liverpool fans were left upset back in July after Anfield favourite Sadio Mane decided to leave Merseyside.

The 30-year-old revealed that he told Jürgen Klopp about his desire to pursue a fresh challenge, which resulted in a £35m move to Bayern Munich at the end of last season.

Mane told BBC Sport Africa: “For me, it was the right time. I spoke with the coach (Klopp) one year ago and talked to him about my desire to leave. If you see my story, I came from a small town – my life was always a challenge, so I want to challenge myself all the time.”

Now – however – the Senegal international may be regretting his move to Germany.

What’s the story?

Well, Mane is struggling at the Allianz Arena after leaving Liverpool, with German media outlets criticising him left, right and centre.

Sport1 have now claimed that Julian Nagelsmann is far from happy with his £35m purchase, and expected more from the Senegalese forward.

Journalist Kerry Hau writes that Mane looks “visibly uncomfortable” at Bayern Munich, where he is described as a “problem child” in the opening paragraph of the story.

Mane was substituted at half-time in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, after touching the ball just eight times.

Sport1 describe his display as “invisible” as Bayern Munich slipped to second in the Bundesliga.

In total, Mane has scored 11 goals in 28 appearances this season.

Liverpool do it again with Mane

Liverpool have often been described as fantastic operators in the transfer market, selling players such as the £19m Dominic Solanke and the £15m Jordan Ibe at perfect times for impressive fees.

Many initially doubted the sale of Mane, with plenty suggesting that Liverpool were wrong to let him go.

However, it now seems as if Liverpool were right to let him leave when they did, while the £35m fee also reflects better on the Reds than it does on Bayern Munich.

Hopefully, Mane can turn things around in Germany, as he remains well loved by Liverpool fans and some will surely be hurt to see him struggling.

Regardless of whether that happens or not, Liverpool appear to have got the better end of the bargain in this instance.
