John Barnes has stated that Liverpool will ‘try to get’ Jude Bellingham during the summer transfer window, but he warned that they won’t spend big for the sake of it.
The Anfield legend thinks that Liverpool will only splash the cash if they can better what Jurgen Klopp already has at his disposal and he thinks they will target players with experience.
In terms of age, Bellingham is only 19 and would fall into that inexperienced category on paper, but he is far from that.

Bellingham already has 22 England caps to his name and 123 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, who he has captained on occasions this season.
If the Reds manage to get his signature over the line, then they will be signing a player who has the ‘complete’ package, as Thierry Henry previously alluded to.
Nonetheless, John Barnes shares what possibly lies ahead for his former side during the upcoming summer transfer window, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (15/03/23).
“It depends on who is available,” said Barnes. “We all want to spend big. But if you’re not going to get better than what you have got, then what is the point of spending big?!
“If you look at the players that have come in during the last 18 months. They have signed four or five players that are young.

“But now they are going to go for experienced players. Okay, Jude Bellingham is young and they will try to get him. He is fairly experienced and he is one that everybody wants.
“I think they will get players to come into the first-team to make a difference, not just to spend money for the sake of it.”

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE IS VERY IMPORTANT
Liverpool are big enough and loud enough to attract a player like Bellingham without Champions League football for next season, but they can’t take such a risk.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if they are in a transfer tussle with the other elite teams in Europe and if they have Champions League football on the table and Liverpool don’t, then they are already on the back foot.
The reason is that those on Merseyside might not be in a powerful financial situation like Chelsea, Manchester City or Real Madrid when going for Bellingham, so they can’t be at a disadvantage in multiple areas.
