NEW details have emerged in the tragic death of Dog the Bounty Hunter’s 13-year-old step-grandson, who was killed in a freak accident.
Teen Anthony Zecca was shot and killed by his father, Gregory Zecca, during a tragic event at an apartment in Naples, Florida, on Saturday.
Deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office arrived to the bloody scene at around 8pm on Saturday and found young Anthony with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to a police report obtained by The U.S. Sun.
The bullet pierced Anthony’s neck, above his sternum, but no exit wound was located on the teen.
The sheriff’s office said that when its deputies arrived, Anthony had already lost “large amounts of blood.”
First responders gave the teen CPR and other life-saving measures, including chest compressions, but were unable to save Anthony.
The teenager was pronounced dead at 10.21pm.
The gun that was used in the shooting was located in the apartment on the kitchen island.
Authorities are investigating the shooting and no charges have been filed yet.
Collier County Sheriff deputies said Gregory Zecca, Anthony’s father, was found with an empty holster in his waistband.
Zecca – the son of Dog’s wife, Francie, from her previous marriage – is a gun enthusiast and has previously shared photos of himself on social media “getting some range time in” with his son and their rifle back in 2021.
Dog, whose real name is Dave Chapman, and his family released a devastating statement, calling the incident an “incomprehensible accident”.
The family said in a statement to TMZ: “We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony.”
Dog and his wife, Francie, married in 2021 following the deaths of each other’s partners.
The couple said they bonded over their shared grief during their relationship.
The bounty hunter TV star, 72, has had more than his fair share of family tragedies, including the deaths of two of his children.
One of Dog’s three children with his second wife, Anne Tegnell, died shortly after birth.
In 2006, Dog’s then-23-year-old daughter, Barbara, died in a car accident while in a stolen SUV in Alaska.
Barbara was one of Dog’s three children from his short-lived marriage with his third wife, Lyssa Britain.
In June 2019, Dog’s fifth wife, Alice Elizabeth “Beth” Barmore, died after being diagnosed with stage two throat cancer.
