Jose Enrique has claimed on Twitter that Barcelona will have to sell Liverpool and Manchester United transfer target Frenkie de Jong in the summer because they ‘need the money’.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently posted on Twitter about Frenkie de Jong’s situation at the Nou Camp and how the highly-rated midfielder is ‘very happy’ and he doesn’t think he will join Manchester United.
That’s a transfer blow for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, especially given that he has already missed out on the signing of one Dutchman already in Cody Gakpo, who joined Liverpool during the January transfer window.

Nonetheless, with Barcelona seemingly in financial ruin for infinity, at every corner, there is talk about a star player leaving, wonderkid Gavi could be another one to head for the exit door, with Jose Enrique keen for Liverpool to ‘contact’ Barcelona to sign the teenager.
But the one player that might attract the biggest interest is 25-year-old de Jong, who Barcelona boss Xavi previously dubbed a ‘genius’.
Following the claims that de Jong doesn’t want a move to Old Trafford, Jose Enrique issued the following responses about the player’s future.
“He (de Jong) wants to stay,” said Enrique. “The problem is Barcelona will need money in the summer and they will probably want to sell him, even if Xavi loves him and they love him at the club.
“But it will be because of (the) need (to sell him). The player (also has) the last decision and he is under contract, so if he doesn’t want to leave, then he is under a contract.”
BELLINGHAM BLOW…BETTER SHOT AT DE JONG?
It’s obvious to the whole footballing world that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool need a midfielder in the summer. They have seemingly been dealt a transfer blow with Jude Bellingham and Enrique wasn’t happy with FSG about that.
But they have to freshen that middle of the park from somewhere, so could Barcelona’s current situation help the Reds?
One thing is for sure, given de Jong’s box-to-box qualities, if he does leave Barcelona, then the club that lands his future will be getting a player that can put his name amongst the top brackets of players in world football.
