Tottenham Hotspur v AC Milan: Round of 16 Second Leg - UEFA Champions League

Jamie Carragher agrees with the Tottenham Hotspur fans and their anger towards chairman Daniel Levy and owners ENIC after they were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Liverpool legend stated that the supporters voicing their ‘huge frustration’ at the likes of Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis is ‘fair’ as the north London club produce another trophyless campaign.

Knocked out of the FA Cup. Slapped in the Champions League without a fight. Harry Kane heading for the exit door. No clue as to who will manage the club next season. It’s all going wrong at Hotspur Way.

Whilst the Tottenham players and Conte have to take responsibility for the performances this season, especially their FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United, where the Italian wrongly decided to rest Harry Kane.

It was Levy who went through two transfer windows under Mauricio Pochettino without spending. It was Levy who booted Poch out of the door months after reaching the Champions League final. It was Levy who appointed Jose Mourinho and then sacked him one week before the League Cup final. It was Levy who hired Ryan Mason and Nuno Espirito Santo. And it was Levy who has shown a lack of ambition to match Kane’s performances during these last ten years.

All in all, Spurs fans are fed up and Carragher shared his thoughts on matters in the capital, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (08/03/23 at 10:35 pm).

“They would have expected to go through against AC Milan,” said Carragher. “I don’t think any Spurs fan thought they would go on and win the Champions League.

“But I think there is a huge frustration within the club. I think a lot of it is aimed at the ownership. The fans feel that Tottenham don’t ever push the boat out and really go and compete with the other big clubs. I mean, that’s a fair assessment.

“I think it lets some of the players and the manager off the hook a little bit as well this season. I don’t envisage the manager being their next season, not just football. There are a few personal reasons.

“In terms of what’s happening right now, I think it’s pretty negative.”

WHAT NEXT FOR TOTTENHAM?

Well, first and foremost, they have to focus on their next Premier League game against Nottingham Forest at the weekend because Liverpool are breathing down their neck in the race to secure Champions League football for next season.

If they lose that, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if Antonio Conte is booted out. Either way, it doesn’t look like he is going to stay beyond the summer, regardless of what happens from now until May.

So, looking for that new manager is paramount, this time, it has to be someone who plays the style of play Tottenham fans want and they are in it for the long term.
