Why is The Weeknd getting ‘cancelled’ on Twitter?

The Weeknd is getting ‘cancelled‘ on Twitter for his response to a Rolling Stone article that claimed “Sam Levinson’s new show with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp — has gone wildly, disgustingly off the rails.”

The headline for the article reads: “‘The Idol’: How HBO’s Next ‘Euphoria’ Became Twisted ‘Torture P**n

The outlet goes on to quote thirteen sources who have reportedly pointed out how the show has taken a turn for worse.

What did the singer say?

The Weeknd tweeted out a snippet from the upcoming show in which he, Dan, and Lily-Rose are seen discussing Rolling Stone.

In it, Dan talks about a Rolling Stone cover that would be good for Lily-Rose’s character. However, instead of receiving an excited response, he is greeted by The Weeknd calling the outlet “a little irrelevant”.

The Weeknd’s character says: “Rolling Stone has six million followers on Instagram, half of them probably bots and Joselyn (Lily-Rose’s character) has 78 million followers, all real. So she is going to tag them, they get followers, nothing for Joselyn.”

His response receives mixed reactions

Some people are not happy with The Weeknd response as they thought he did not address the main issues that have been raised in the article.

One user wrote: “This isn’t helping him beat the allegations AT ALL. he is even more sus now.” Another added: “This is such a bad look (and I’m not talking about the excellent reporting from @RollingStone).”

“DELETE DELETE DELETE,’ another fan tweeted in response to the singer’s tweet. “Please delete and log out,’ said another.

Meanwhile, there were others who were shocked about the singer getting ‘cancelled’ as one person wrote: “The Weeknd getting cancelled was not on my 2023 bingo list.”

Another added: “never thought i’d live to see the day the Weeknd gets cancelled.” “Idc the weeknd is not getting cancelled,” wrote a fan.
