The brand new Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy, has been available to play on current-gen consoles and PC since February, but the release date for when it will come out on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch has sadly been delayed again.
Hogwarts Legacy is a fantastic game and almost everything fans could have wanted. Sure, it sucks that there is no multiplayer or co-op, and it would have been nice to have quidditch, but almost everything about the game is fantastic from its visuals, story, and characters, to just the magic of roaming the iconic school from the forbidden section to the house rooms.
While everyone on current-gen platforms is able to enrol into the school of witchcraft and wizardry right now, PS4 and Xbox One players need to a wait a little bit longer while Nintendo Switch owners must wait until July.
When does Hogwarts Legacy come out on PS4 and Xbox?
The release date for when Hogwarts Legacy will come out on PS4 and Xbox One is May 5th.
Confirmation of the above launch date comes courtesy of the game’s official FAQ . It was originally intended to launch on April 4th for PlayStation and Xbox last-gen systems, but it is now releasing in May.
As for why it’s been delayed again on last-gen consoles, they devs simply posted on the HogwartsLegacy Twitter account that ‘the team is working hard to deliver the best possible experience on all platforms and we need more time to do this’.
Although disappointing, the good news is that it is coming to older platforms relatively soon. It’s not like Gotham Knights where the game was flat out cancelled for PS4 and Xbox One systems.
Nintendo Switch release date
While Hogwarts Legacy will come out for PS4 and Xbox One on May 5th, the release date for when it will launch on Nintendo Switch is still July 25th.
No reason has been provided as for why it is coming out even later on Nintendo’s console. There’s also no mention of the Switch version being a product of the cloud.
You can pre-order the game on PS4 and Xbox One for $59.99/£59.99. Alas, there is no way to pre-order a digital copy on the Nintendo eShop as of writing.
While Hogwarts Legacy is only available on next-gen consoles and PC right now, PS4 and Xbox One gamers can still link their WB Games account to Wizarding World to get exclusive rewards for when the game eventually releases on last-gen platforms.
PlayStation gamers can also still participate in the Sony House Cup to get digital avatars.
