'Getting scared': Sturridge makes worrying Arsenal comparison as title pressure grows

Ally McCoist thinks Martin Odegaard is the ‘most integral part’ of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal team after he was told that the playmaker could sign a new contract.

TalkSport presenter and Arsenal fan Laura Woods shared that with McCoist, as she expressed that she is ‘very excited’ at the prospect of Martin Odegaard signing a long-term contract.

During the January transfer window of 2021, Martin Odegaard was loaned to Arsenal from Real Madrid, before he headed back to Spain the following summer.

In truth, the 24-year-old didn’t exactly light up the place for the first six months, but those in the Emirates boardroom still pushed for his permanent signature.

Fast forward to the present and it could be argued that he is one of the first names on the teamsheet for a side sitting top of the Premier League table.

A player of high intelligence, outstanding control and quick-thinking ability, Ally McCoist is certainly a fan of Martin Odegaard, as he shared his thoughts on that possible contract, as he told talkSPORT.

“He (Odegaard) has been brilliant,” said McCoist. “Did he not win the London Player of the Year?! Thoroughly deserved.

“I actually think he might be the most integral part of that team – I think Odegaard keeps the whole thing moving and ticking along. I really think he is a terrific footballer.”

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the Arsenal captain’s armband, you would have dreaded to be the person to replace him because of the recent history involving that role.

Whilst Granit Xhaka has now redeemed himself, he was stripped and disgraced of that honour, whilst Aubameyang was thrown to the wolves and booted out.

But finally, Arsenal now have a skipper leading by example and heading down a road where they could be champions in a few months.
