How To Beat The First Boss In Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

The first boss is available to beat in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty thanks to the demo that is available for players to try out and experience. This allows players to see whether they want to play the full game, and it is up to them whether they want to purchase and play the full game. This guide will tell you how to beat the first boss in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

This game is similar to that of Nioh as it is also developed by Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja. However, it is a brand new IP, and this game is a dark fantasy and is set in the world of the Three Kingdoms period of China. The demo is a relatively short one, and it contains the first two chapters of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

In this demo, you will get to fight the first boss. The boss’ name is Zhang Liang, The General Of Man. and he is proving to be difficult for a lot of the players who are starting out in the demo.

Here is how you can defeat Zhang Liang, the first boss in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.

How To Beat The First Boss In Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

Zhang Liang doesn’t have the kindest fighting style compared to other starting battles in Soulslike games. His fight is punishing. Through the first stage you can get in a free couple of hits if you sprint towards him as soon as you walk into the fight, but then you will want to back off as soon as he has finished slamming his weapon into the ground. If you want to gain distance, using spells is a great way to gain distance despite not being effective for damage.

If you are able to successfully deflect his attacks, you will have a small window to attack him after each of his attacks. You will be able to do three attacks in a row that will be able to briefly stunlock him, and can get his health bar down pretty quickly if you keep going. However, it can be hard to get those deflects down.

He will also occasionally jump into the air, but won’t fall back down straight away. You can lock onto him to be able to keep an eye on him at all times, so you can get an attack in when he slams back down.

Second Phase

Unfortunately, this boss isn’t kind. It does have a second phase, and you will probably have to try this boss fight a couple of times to be able to get the hang of it down. The only successful way to be able to negate damage is by deflecting.

He will start the second phase by swinging his now demonic arm. However, it won’t be able to hit you from your starting position in the second phase. When you are fighting him in the second phase, you will have to have to be pretty patient, so you will to take your time for this. You will also have to either be good at dodging or deflecting as he will double up on his attacks in the second phase.

Zhang Liang will also summon rocky shards from the ground from time to time, and although they look like they can’t be deflected, they also can be if you are able to time it correctly. This also goes for his ramming attack, however, his ramming attack happens later.

One attack you will have to keep an eye out for is a grab attack that he will often attempt with his demonic arm. There will be a red glow before this happens, as he pulls his left arm back slightly and then sends in his demonic arm after you. Despite distance between you and Zhang, this attack has a lot of range, so don’t be surprised if you get grabbed by this the first couple of times you encounter this!

There will also be a lot more airborne flips from him where he will slam his hand into the ground, so you will have to be careful about your footing and make sure you are aware of where the boss is at all times!

Once he is down to 50% health in his second phase, it is time to summon a Divine Beast, in which you will have to do a series of prompts. Follow the prompts and the Divine Beast will trigger a cutscene and then you will have completed the boss fight!

That is everything you need to know about beating the first boss in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
