Whilst working for the Dorodnitsyn Computing Centre, Alexey began developing the game. During his search for inspiration, the computer engineer recalled his early childhood memories.
In an interview with NPR, Alexey reflected on his memories of the game pentominoes, a game where the aim is to create pictures using different shapes. He further reflected on the difficulties he had as a child when attempting to put the shapes back in the box. “When you try to put [them] back in the box you’re in trouble because it’s really hard to do that.”
From this conclusion, the game of Tetris was born.
