A MAN accused of stalking Taylor Swift for weeks was arrested on Saturday after allegedly trying to break into her New York City apartment building.
The New York Police Department said they apprehended the man in the Tribeca neighborhood after receiving a phone call about a “disorderly person.”
A spokesperson from the department explained that the man, whose identity has yet to be released, attempted to open a door in the building but would not confirm which door it was or where it led, per Page Six.
“Upon arrival, [police] were informed that the individual attempted to open a door to a building at the location,” they told the outlet.
Even so, an eyewitness at the scene claimed they saw the man specifically trying to get through the door leading to Swift’s building at around 1:00 pm.
“I first saw him around 1 p.m. — he went up to Taylor’s door,” the witness said.
“I’m not sure if he knocked or rang the doorbell.”
The witness also claimed they spotted the man before on several occasions over a few weeks and started to become suspicious.
This was corroborated by a second witness who spoke with Page Six.
They accused the man of “lurking here for a month” and claimed they saw him “sleeping on the stoop, chain-smoking constantly, shouting, and generally making everyone uncomfortable.”
It was around Christmas that the second witness, a fellow resident in the building along with their husband, said the man indicated his interest in the 34-year-old pop music megastar.
“When he arrived before Christmas, my husband asked what he was doing here and he said, ‘I want to see Taylor,’” they noted.
“He even had flowers at one point.”
According to the neighbor, they called the NYPD several times about the alleged stalker — but officers weren’t able to act until Saturday when the man was seen forcefully attempting to enter the property.
“I asked him to leave this morning and he just stared at me, catatonic,” the neighbor recalled.
“Total nutcase,” they added of the man.
Despite what would seemingly be a tense scenario, the first witness noted that after police arrived just before 2:00 pm on Saturday, they apprehended the man with no trouble, per Page Six.
They told the outlet that officers and the alleged stalker conversed for “a few minutes before they cuffed him.
“It was all pretty civil — He didn’t resist,” the witness said.
“There was no yelling or anything.”
Pictures of the scene showed the man with shaggy brown hair and a beard dressed in a tan hoodie, khakis, a navy blue puffer jacket, and white sneakers.
NYPD also confirmed that the alleged stalker was taken into custody due to an unrelated warrant already out for their arrest.
The U.S. Sun has contacted Swift’s team for further comment.
As The U.S. Sun previously reported, Swift’s already been making waves and breaking records in 2024.
Last week, the All Too Well singer became the first act to hit one billion streams on Spotify for the year.
Swift managed to earn the title less than two weeks into the New Year, an impressive feat for any artist — especially considering she hasn’t released new music since October with 1989 Taylor’s Version.
