Arsenal and Liverpool have now received encouragement in their respective pursuits of Alexis Mac Allister.
What’s the story?
Well – according to Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo – both Mikel Arteta and Jürgen Klopp want to sign the Argentina international this summer.
Mac Allister – who Brighton signed for just £7m – has developed into one of the best players in the Premier League, and also put his name up in lights at the World Cup in December.
The South American played a key role with one goal and one assist in six games to fire Argentina to glory.
Now, Brighton fans will be concerned after Mac Allister’s father – Carlos Mac Allister – told Puro Boca that he expects his son to leave the Amex Stadium this summer.
The 55-year-old said: “Normally, the upcoming transfer market will find him playing for another club, we don’t know which one yet as the talks are starting. It’s very likely that Alexis will be playing in another team in the summer.”

It isn’t often we hear a footballer’s relative speak so openly about transfer plans, to say the least.

Mac Allister has scored ten goals and provided two assists in 29 appearances for Brighton this season.
Alexis Mac Allister should choose Liverpool over Arsenal
In our view, Mac Allister has a better chance of taking his career to the next level if he joins Liverpool.
Arsenal already have a settled midfield of Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Martin Ødegaard, so the Argentine would have to bid his time until he breaks into the Premier League leaders’ starting XI.
In contrast, Liverpool seem ready to rip up their midfield department and bring a number of starters to Anfield.
The Times believe Liverpool have abandoned their pursuit of Jude Bellingham due to the £120m cost, in preference of spending that money on a number of midfielders rather than one.

Thiago has struggled to stay fit this season, while Fabinho is not the player he once was – nor is Jordan Henderson.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are also set to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season.
Therefore, Mac Allister would have a place in the starting XI with his name on it at Anfield, which wouldn’t be the case at Arsenal.
