SYDNEY Sweeney may not drink or smoke, but her mother is a big-time lawyer in the marijuana business, The U.S. Sun can report.
Actress Sydney’s mom Lisa Mudd Sweeney, 61, has been a major figure in the pro-cannabis movement for years.
Lisa was a respected criminal lawyer, originally from Spokane, Washington, who worked her way up to become the assistant attorney general in Washington state for six years during the ’90s before changing career paths.
She worked for the law firm Hoban Law Group and, in 2017, was part of a legal team which fought the DEA over its bid to outlaw hemp CBD, with Lisa being referred to as a “hemp attorney.”
Hoban Law was the first law firm in the U.S. dedicated purely to the cannabis industry, according to its X account.
The family moved down to Los Angeles and, before Californians voted in November 2016 in favor of legalizing marijuana, Lisa was a fervent campaigner.
She was in the L.A. chapter chair of Women Grow, which is a networking organization to help women break down barriers to become leaders in the cannabis industry.
It now has a foundation and holds a yearly summit, which “promises to be a landmark gathering of entrepreneurs, advocates, and professionals shaping the future of cannabis,” states its website.
While chair, she was a speaker at networking events and conferences connecting aspiring and current pros in the multi-billion dollar cannabis industry working with big names such as the National Hemp Association.
Her X account, which is @CannaBizAtty, hasn’t been updated since 2018, but has hundreds of posts on cannabis-related news and the benefits to people’s health.
Sydney’s dad Steve, who has kept firmly out of the spotlight and is divorced from Lisa, has advertised the Women Grow events including “cultivating cannabis entrepreneurs” on his Instagram.
It appears that Sydney’s younger brother Trent, 25, also loves herbs, but of a different variety.
From his Instagram, it appears he’s now moved to London and has his own vegetable patch with spinach, pumpkins, squash, carrots and beetroot.
Sydney, 27, herself has said she stays away from substances.
“I’m not one for going out – I’ve never done drugs. I’ve never smoked weed, I don’t drink,” she once said.
Sydney’s family made headlines in August 2022, when Lisa’s 60th birthday party included guests with suspected MAGA hats, which left some of the actress’ liberal-leaning fans angry.
“You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my mom’s milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention,” she snapped back on X.
“Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone and Happy Birthday Mom!”
ALL IN THE FAMILY
As The U.S. Sun previously reported, Sydney’s on-again, off-again fiance Jonathan Davino’s sister Carissa is a millionaire cannabis CEO.
Carissa, who owns an $11 million mansion in Los Angeles, made her fortune off of a marijuana vape that allows the consumer to smoke out of two different cartridges at once, according to Cannabis Law Report.
It’s unclear if Sydney will marry into the family, however.
The couple split in March after seven years together.
A source told The U.S. Sun: “Sydney and Jonathan have split and are having time apart from each other.
