A new study has linked sugar substitute erythritol to heart attacks and many are now wondering if Sweet N Low contains it.
Sweet’N Low is a widely-sold artificial sweetener product which is advertised as a healthy and zero calorie alternative to sugar.
Erythritol is one of many organic compounds that is used as a sugar substitute in food and not all artificially sweeteners contain it.
The FDA lists the sweetener as a safe ingredient for human consumption, but the new health study has sparked fear nonetheless.

Does Sweet N Low contain erythritol?
No. Sweet’N Low does not contain erythritol.
The official website reveals most of their products contain the sweeteners Acesulfame-K, Aspartame, or a mixture of both.
This includes their tablets for beverages, granules for sprinkling and large industrial bags of sugar alternative for chefs.
They also offer a 3kg bag of sweetener that contains Saccharin, another sweetener and alternative to erythritol.

Study links erythritol to heart attacks
The new study was published in the journal of Nature Medicine on Monday (Febraury 7) and is titled: “The artificial sweetener erythritol and cardiovascular event risk.”

Science researchers at a Clinic in Cleveland checked the blood erythritol levels of more than 4,000 people in the US and Europe.
They found that people with existing risk factors for heart disease were twice as likely to have a stroke or blood clot if they had high levels of the erythritol in their blood.
The reachers concluded that erythritol is associated with “incident (3 year) risk for major adverse cardiovascular events,” “MACE risk” and “fosters enhanced thrombosis”.
This comes as the CDC has just issued warnings about a new norovirus stomach bug which is on the rise in 2023.

Which products contain erythritol?
The two main sweetener products on the market that contain erythritol are Splenda and Truvia.
They are both popular sugar substitutes that are sold worldwide and used in a number artificially sweetened food and drink products.
Sweeteners are used in all kinds of different products from fizzy drinks to teas, candles, chewing gum and even soy sauce.
However, the world’s most popular low-calorie fizzy drink Diet Coke does not contain erythritol. Coke Zero doesn’t either.
