We’ve explored the competitors to find the best alternatives to YouTube TV, after the video giants announced a subscription price increase for 2023.
YouTube first began taking over our computer screens back in the mid-2000s and has transformed into arguably the biggest online video platform of all time in the years since.
And 2017 saw YouTube continue to grow, as it ventured into a new market with its very own streaming platform, YouTube TV.
But a new price hike has led some YouTube TV subscribers to wonder if they need to start looking at alternatives, so we scanned the web to see what YouTube’s competitors have to offer.
YouTube TV announces eyewatering 2023 price increase
Just in case 2023 hasn’t been expensive enough already, YouTube TV became the latest in a string of big companies to announce a sharp rise in their service costs.
Taking to Twitter, the company broke the news to its followers that the YouTube TV subscription price will be rising to $72.99 per month, up from the previous price of $64.99.
The updated price will be paid by all new members instantly, while pre-existing members will not have to cough up the new price until April 18.
To soften the blow, YouTube TV did announce that the cost of adding the 4K experience to the streaming package will now be reduced from $19.99 per month to $9.99.
The company assured any dismayed subscribers that they were free to cancel their subscription instantly, at their convenience.
YouTube TV’s competitors and alternatives explored
YouTube TV offers content from over 100 channels, including Fox and ESPN, and boasts titles such as The Walking Dead, Friends and The Office. But how do their competitors fare in comparison?
One popular rival streaming site is Hulu. Though traditionally a streaming service, they offer a live TV version that holds a similar channel selection to YouTube TV, though it will cost you around the same as YouTube at $70 per month, and there is no 4K add-on option.

Sling TV, though less prolific than the previous names, is also a solid alternative to YouTube TV. Sling offers two packages, Orange and Blue, each of which is priced at $35, though you can buy the pair for $50 per month.
Fubo TV is a third alternative option for those looking to ditch YouTube, and you can join for $70 per month, gaining access to 131 channels. They also provide an additional 59 channels for $80 per month, though there are limited 4K options.
Price increase doesn’t go down well online
While many ponder what their next move will be, some YouTube TV subscribers were quick to let the company know what they thought of the changes online.
One disgruntled subscriber told YouTube to “actually do something thoughtful”, rather than “telling your customers to cancel if they don’t like your pricing”, to which he was met with a rather polite response from the YouTube support team:
Another soon-to-be ex-subscriber claimed that pricing wasn’t the issue with YouTube TV, but rather the fact that the service no longer supports the MLB network:
Alluding to the reasoning behind the price increase, YouTibe cited “an overall rise in content costs”, as they encouraged upset subscribers to leave feedback on the site.
