Celta Vigo team-mate Iago Aspas is urging Gabri Veiga to stay put despite interest from Premier League giants Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle United, speaking to AS.
Aspas knows from experience just how unforgiving English football can be. That miserable and short-lived spell at Anfield is unfortunately what many on UK soil will remember the Spain international by, regardless of just how eternally brilliant has been across the last eight years at boyhood club Celta Vigo.
Aspas was 25 when he joined Liverpool in 2013. Five years Veiga’s senior.

And, while the Premier League’s big hitters are already queuing up to sign the most prolific midfielder in the whole of La Liga – Veiga taking his tally to nine last weekend with another sumptuous finish – Aspas hopes that his much-coveted team-mate sticks around to celebrate history with a Celta Vigo side nearing their 100th birthday.
Liverpool, Newcastle and Arsenal like Gabri Veiga
“What I recommend to Gabri, who is very good and also very young, is that he stay at Celta for at least one more season. Next season is Celta’s centenary. And I would like Gabri Veiga to stay with us,” Aspas tells AS.
“Then, he will be able to choose to play wherever he wants, because his potential is fantastic. He is followed by great clubs, I know. But Gabri is 20 years old and has time ahead of him.”

Veiga, who has a £33 million release clause in his contract, is on the radar of Arsenal, Man City, Real Madrid and more. Reporter Anton Meana, meanwhile, believes that Liverpool are in ‘love’ with the silky attacking midfielder, as Newcastle prepare to put their considerable resources where their mouth is.
Newcastle will allegedly trigger that £33 million clause. Veiga could also take home £85,000-a-week at St James’ Park.
“His physical development has greatly influenced his career. He had a great development in the youth team; he became very powerful and very strong,” Carlos Hugo Bayon, director of the Celta academy, tells AS.
“That has helped him play his type of football. ‘Box to box’, as they say in England. A midfielder with these numbers and these instincts in the opposition penalty area are pure gold. An outstanding player.”
