According to The Mail, Arsenal are eyeing up a summer move for Romeo Lavia.
The Belgian midfielder has been catching the eye with Southampton this season after a summer move from Manchester City, and after just a handful of games for the south-coast club, he is being targeted by the Premier League’s big boys.
Arsenal are keen, and there’s reason to believe he’d be a great fit for Mikel Arteta’s side. After all, as a product of Manchester City’s academy he knows a lot about Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta’s style of play as Arteta honed his craft under Guardiola at City.
Interestingly, Guardiola has praised Lavia for his impact at Southampton this season, hailing his start to life at St Mary’s as ‘amazing’.

Guardiola’s praise for Lavia
The Spaniard spoke highly of Lavia earlier this season.
“Yes. Romeo Lavia started amazingly, unfortunately he has had the injury. Juan Larios has started again and Edozie as well,” he said.

“Gavin Bazunu is playing regularly. They are all young. The guy (former head of youth recruitment Joe Shields) who was here is now in Southampton and brings them there. It’s an incredible experience at this early age to be ready to play almost week in, week out. To try to do that is incredible.”
Seal of approval
If Pep Guardiola rates you then you must be a special player.
Lavia still has a lot to prove at the top level, but this seal of approval from Pep is a testament to his quality and a sign that he could be a great fit for Arsenal.
Of course, the fact that Manchester City do have a buy-back clause for Lavia could complicate things for Arsenal, but with the Gunners currently sitting pretty at the top of the league, you have to consider them as contenders in any transfer race.
