Southampton could now join Bristol City in making a significant decision midway through the 2022/23 campaign.
What’s the story?
Well, both the Saints and the Robins were in partnership with Hummel.
The Danish sportswear brand signed a five-year deal with Southampton back in back in 2021, providing kits for the 2021/22 campaign as well as the current 2022/23 season.
However, Hummel – who also provided kits for Bristol City – went bankrupt in November, with the Championship side now taking action.
Bristol City have already taken the decision to bring their new partnership with O’Neills forward and wear next season’s kit for the remainder of the current campaign.
That is because the Robins were concerned there wouldn’t be enough Hummel kits available to their players for the remainder of the season – according to Footy Headlines.
Now, it remains to be seen if Southampton follow suit, although the Saints could decide to make a similar decision.

If Southampton do decide to take similar action to Bristol City, they would become the first Premier League side in history to change their kit entirely midway through a season.
Southampton have another reason to copy Bristol City
Aside from the risk of running out of shirts for their players, Southampton have another reason to take a similar decision to Bristol City – from a marketing aspect.

Supporters find themselves reengaged with their beloved Saints following the hugely significant 1-0 win over Chelsea, as a tactical masterclass from Ruben Selles gave Southampton hope in the relegation battle.
As a result, there may now be an increased desire from supporters to buy shirts, although after Hummel went bankrupt, there have been stock issues.
Bristol Live mention that the Robins opted to terminate their deal early after facing stock problems over the Christmas period, so we wouldn’t be surprised to see Southampton change their kit as well.
