Saturday Night Live (SNL) paid tribute to one of their late writers, Erin Maroney Fraser, who passed away earlier this month.
This year has seen the SNL team bid several of their colleagues goodbye. Just two weeks ago, the team paid tribute to late set designer Eugene Lee who had been working on the show since its debut year. Now, they are paying homage to Erin Maroney Fraser, who was on the comedy show’s writing team.
The latest episode (Saturday, March 11) saw a title card aired in honor of the late writer, but what happened to Maroney Fraser?
What happened to Erin Maroney Fraser?
Erin Maroney Fraser died this March after suffering a brain haemorrhage, a GoFundMe page, set up for her children, confirmed. She was just 53 years old.
“March 2nd started like any other day for Erin Fraser,” the GoFundMe page explained. “She got up, wished her youngest child a happy birthday, and went to work at her new job as Executive Director for the Savannah Regional Film Commission (“SRFC”). But after lunch, Erin started to feel ill. Within hours, Erin passed away from a brain hemorrhage (sic).”

Maroney Fraser is survived by her three children, two of whom are students at Emory University, Fraser’s alma mater. Her eldest child was also a graduate of Emory University. The GoFundMe page is set up to help Maroney Fraser’s children with tuition. Any excess funds raised will go to the Erin and Jay Fraser Scholarship Fund at Emory University.
SNL pays tribute to Erin Maroney Fraser
Erin Maroney Fraser had a long career working with the SNL team. She got her start in the entertainment industry working as a senior assistant to Lorne Michaels, the creator and producer of Saturday Night Live.
Maroney Fraser started working for Michaels in 1991. Four years later, she would secure a staff writing role on the sketch comedy show. She served as a writer for 18 episodes between 1995 and 1996, credited as Erin Maroney.
Some of the guests who featured as host in the episodes Maroney Fraser worked on include Quentin Tarantino, Jim Carrey, and Christopher Walken.
Erin’s career went beyond SNL
Despite being best-known for her link to SNL, Erin Fraser Maroney worked with Lorne Michaels on several TV shows and films.
While working as his assistant, Fraser Maroney worked on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, as well as Tommy Boy and Wayne’s World 2.
