THE legendary country and pop singer Connie Francis, who is best known for her track Pretty Little Baby, has died.
Francis, 87, died after recently being in hospital.
Her death was confirmed by her friend Ron Roberts.
“It is with a heavy heart and extreme sadness that i inform you of the passing of my dear friend Connie Francis last night,” he wrote on Facebook.
“I know that Connie would approve that her fans are among the first to learn of this sad news.”
In July, the radio personality, Cousin Brucie, revealed that Francis had been admitted to the intensive care unit.
She was hospitalized after experiencing “extreme pain.”
She was suffering from pelvic pain, which required her to use a wheelchair.
Her hospitalization had forced her to pull out of a July 4 Independence Day show.
She provided an update on her condition in a post to her fans on July 4.
Francis thanked fans for their prayers.
“A happy Independence Day to you and your loved ones,” she rounded off the post.
Francis released the track Pretty Little Baby in 1962 and more than 60 years later, it went viral on TikTok.
The song proved a hit on the social media platform, with influencers lip-syncing to the lyrics.
In May, Francis revealed she was “thrilled and overwhelmed” about the success of the track.
“I recorded that song 63 years ago and to know that an entire new generation now knows who I am, and my music is thrilling for me,” she said.
“Thank you so much everybody, thank you TikTok.”
Pretty Little Baby has been streamed more than 74.8 million times on Spotify.
In May, it reached the top five in the US and UK versions of the Spotify streaming charts.
Reflecting on the song’s success, Francis admitted she had forgotten she had recorded it.
“To tell you the truth, I didn’t even remember the song,” she told People.
“I had to listen to it to remember.
“To think that a song I recorded 63 years ago is touching the hearts of millions of people is truly awesome. It is an amazing feeling.”
Francis admitted she was honored fans were paying tribute to her.

Tributes have poured in for the singer in light of her death.
“RIP Connie, thank you for all your beautiful songs and movies,” a fan said.
“Very sad news. An amazingly talented and lovely lady,” another worte.
“I’m so sorry to hear this,” a third fan wrote.
“May she rest in peace. She will always be in our hearts because of her music.”
“Rest in peace Connie, you are one of my favorites,” a mourner penned.
“Sing up a storm in heaven girl.”
