LEGENDARY actor Ryan O’Neal has died at the age of 82.

The Love Story and Peyton Place actor’s son, Patrick O’Neal, announced the sad news on Friday.

“So this is the toughest thing I’ve ever had to say but here we go. My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us,” Patrick posted to Instagram.

“My father Ryan O’Neal has always been my hero. I looked up to him and he was always bigger than life,” Patrick wrote.

Ryan was an Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee who was famously known for having an on-and-off relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett.

Their relationship spanned three decades.

Fawcett died of cancer at the age of 62 in 2009.

The couple had a son together, Redmond O’Neal, in 1985.

Ryan has three other adult children: Griffin, Tatum, and Redmond.

Ryan’s son Patrick referenced his father’s relationship with Fawcett in a separate Instagram post on Friday.

“Ryan never bragged, but he has bragging rights in Heaven. Especially when it comes to Farrah.

“Everyone had the poster, he had the real McCoy. And now they meet again.

“Farrah and Ryan. He has missed her terribly. What an embrace that must be. Together again,” he wrote.

The actor fought his own battle against cancer for many years, although the cause of his death has not yet been released.

Ryan was first diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia in 2001.

He was later diagnosed with stage two prostate cancer.

In 2012, the actor told Reuters: “Although I was shocked and stunned by the news, I feel fortunate that it was detected early and according to my extraordinary team of doctors the prognosis is positive for a full recovery.

“I am deeply grateful for the support of my friends and family during this time, and I urge everyone to get regular check-ups, as early detection is the best defense against this horrible disease that has afflicted so many,” he added.
