RHOC star Lydia McLaughlin’s family plans to sue after ‘deeply disturbing’ bodycam footage is released and showed her brother being shot dead by cops, The U.S. Sun can exclusively reveal.

Newport Beach Police Department released bodycam footage of Geoff Stirling, Lydia’s older brother, being pulled over on his motorcycle last month in a traffic stop that soon turned deadly.

After the footage was publicly released on Thursday, Lydia’s family stated the “disturbing” scene they witnessed has raised “serious questions” and they plan on taking legal action.

In a statement sent to The U.S. Sun, the family, including Lydia along with her dad, Scott, and brother Jesse, said of the footage: “The videos have raised serious concerns and many questions about the actions of that police officer.

“Of grave and specific concern is that the videos appear to show Geoff moving away from the officer at the time he was shot six times.

“The family through their Attorneys plan to file a lawsuit in Federal Court to obtain full answers and seek accountability.”

The statement said that Geoff was “experiencing a mental health crisis” when he was stopped for a traffic infraction in the California beach town.

They also claimed: “Geoff was unarmed and posed no deadly threat to the officer.”

The family is hoping that “all video and audio footage” along with the other reports of evidence are presented as part of the lawsuit they plan to file.

“The cause of death was blood loss. Despite the presence of multiple officers reporting to the scene, no aid was initially offered.

“The family remains heartbroken and devastated that Geoff was taken from them in what appears to be an unjustified use of lethal force.

“Equally tragic is that there may have been other options and tactics available to the officer that he failed to utilize based on his training,” they added.

GEOFF’S FINAL ENCOUNTER

Geoffrey Stirling, 45, who is the older sibling of Real Housewives of Orange County alum Lydia, was killed in Newport Beach, roughly an hour south of Los Angeles, after cops pulled him over on a highway.

He was riding a motorcycle along the Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County when he was stopped at 9:15pm on April 17, 2025.

In bodycam footage released by the police department, Geoff is seen getting off the motorcycle however, things begin to take a turn when the officer repeatedly demands he sit down on the ground.

Geoff refuses despite the officer repeatedly asking him to sit down on the sidewalk.

“I don’t care what you’re telling me to do. I don’t want to sit down,” Geoff told the officer.

The officer then radios his colleagues to come for backup after saying Geoff was being “uncooperative.”

“Dude, you ran a red light. Just sit down and we’ll figure it out, okay?” the cop pleaded with Geoff.

“I’ll show you my ID. Don’t shoot me,” Geoff then tells the cop as he appears to reach into his pocket to grab identification.

“I’m not going to shoot you. Don’t reach for f**king s**t. Sit down we will figure it out,” the officer said back.

The pair, who are still several feet apart from each other at this point, continue to argue for another minute about Geoff not sitting down.

At one point during the altercation, it appeared as if Geoff had urinated in his pants.

The bodycam and dashcam footage then show Geoff seemingly taking a step toward his bike – resulting in the officer immediately attempting to tackle him to the ground.

“F**k that motherf**ker,” the cop yells as the two begin to try to fight each other off for several seconds.

During the altercation, the officer’s bodycam was knocked off however, the police car’s dashcam footage captured the remainder of the incident.

They continue to try to wrestle each other to the ground and at one point, shift onto the street briefly before moving back toward the sidewalk.

Despite the officer repeatedly trying to kick Geoff’s legs and having his arm around his head, he was unable to get him down on the ground.

After another minute of wrestling, the tension turned more violent when the released footage, which is edited to include slow-motion parts of the scene along with text the officers added in, claimed that Geoff took the cop’s taser gun and placed it at his head.

Full Statement on Geoff Stirling’s Death

“Sergeant Steve Oberon Scott Stirling, father of Geoff Stirling along with his daughter Lydia McLaughlin (sister of Geoff Stirling) and Jesse Stirling (brother of Geoff Stirling) issue this statement in response to the recent viewing of the video footage of the shooting death of Geoff Stirling and its anticipated dissemination to the public.

The family through their Attorneys was provided an opportunity to view the dash camera “dash cam” and officer body worn camera videos from the night Geoff was shot and killed by a Newport Beach Police Officer. The videos have raised serious concerns and many questions about the actions of that police officer. Of grave and specific concern is that the videos appear to show Geoff moving away from the officer at the time he was shot six times. The family through their Attorneys plan to file a lawsuit in Federal Court to obtain full answers and seek accountability.

Geoff was experiencing a mental health crisis when he was stopped for a traffic infraction. Geoff was unarmed and posed no deadly threat to the officer. The Stirling family expects that all video and audio footage along with every report and shred of evidence related to this deeply disturbing shooting be preserved for presentation in due course as part of the lawsuit the family will be pursuing. The cause of death was blood loss. Despite the presence of multiple officers reporting to the scene, no aid was initially offered.

The family remains heartbroken and devastated that Geoff was taken from them in what appears to be an unjustified use of lethal force. Equally tragic is that there may have been other options and tactics available to the officer that he failed to utilize based on his training.”

At that point, it appears Geoff and the cop are backing away from each other but the officer draws his gun and points it at Geoff, demanding he “drop” the taser.

Immediately after telling him to drop the taser, the officer opens fire and shoots Geoff.

Six shots can be heard in the bodycam footage being fired at Geoff – who was standing several feet away from the cop when he began shooting.

Geoff can be seen falling to the ground after the round of shots were fired.

Sergeant Steve Oberon, who added commentary on the police-released footage, then stated on-camera: “Seconds after the officer-involved shooting, additional officers arrived on scene and formulated a plan to take Mr. Stirling into custody and administer medical aid.

“A few minutes after the shooting, the Newport Beach Fire Department arrived at the scene and took over medical aid.

“Mr. Stirling was transported to a nearby hospital, where he passed away. The officer was later treated and released from a hospital for injuries obtained during the incident.”

Newport Beach Police Department is currently doing its own independent investigation into the incident.
