Liverpool have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Nayef Aguerd’s performances for West Ham and Morocco as they look to bolster their defensive options in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Goal, Aguerd’s rise to prominence over the past few months has not gone unnoticed at Liverpool and the Reds are seemingly admirers of the 26-year-old.
The Moroccan international was one of the standout players for his country during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, helping them reach the semi-finals on the biggest stage in football.
His West Ham teammate, Declan Rice, described his performances in Qatar as ‘massive’.
Domestically, he has also been in good form when fit and one has to wonder where West Ham would currently be without him.

Aguerd may have only been in England for a few months, but he’s taken to life in the Premier League like a duck to water, catching the eye of Liverpool in the process.

Liverpool have struggled at centre-back this season. Virgil van Dijk’s injury issues have, once again, cropped up, while Joe Gomez and Joel Matup haven’t looked at their best as of late.
Matip, in particular, has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, and if he were to depart, Liverpool would need to bring in a replacement. Aguerd could be an ideal candidate, given his impressive performances this season for West Ham and Morocco.
Liverpool have a history of signing players from mid to lower table Premier League sides and turning them into stars with the likes of Diogo Jota and Andy Robertson becoming stars at Anfield.
Liverpool are yet to make an official move for Aguerd, the fact that they are monitoring his progress suggests that a summer move could be on the cards.
With the transfer window set to open in a few months’ time, it remains to be seen whether the Reds will make a move for the Moroccan international, but it looks like a move for a centre-half could be on the cards sooner rather than later.
