Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing USA international Weston McKennie, with Unai Emery confident he can agree on a deal to bring the on-loan Leeds midfielder to Villa Park.
According to Tuttosport, the Spanish manager is a huge fan of the Juventus-owned player, and with Leeds unlikely to sign McKennie in the summer based on their current Premier League position, Villa could make a swoop for the 24-year-old.
As per the report, Leeds currently have a €34m (£30m) option to make McKennie’s signing a permanent one. However, with Jesse Marsch no longer at the club and the Yorkshire side a favourite to be relegated from the top flight, this clause is unlikely to be activated in the summer transfer window.
Lauded by Clinton Morrison as ‘outstanding’, McKennie has impressed in his first few weeks in England. Yet with Leeds already set to miss out on signing the American on a permanent deal, Villa could be there to swoop for the Texan-born superstar come the end of the season.

Indeed, Emery is keen to add to his midfield options as the Spanish manager looks to finally break Villa into contention for a European spot, and signing McKennie could be an excellent decision from the former Villarreal and Arsenal head coach.

Moreover, McKennie himself could be keen on a move to Villa Park, with the midfielder showing that he is capable of performing in the Premier League and has caught the eye of many in his first few weeks in the country since moving from Juventus, with Emery clearly impressed with what he has seen.
Villa signing McKennie could be a steal at Leeds’ expense

Leeds are one of the current favourites to be drop down to the Championship in what is slowly evolving into of the tightest Premier League relegation zones in modern history, and for Villa, the Whites finishing in the bottom three will spur Emery on to sign McKennie.
The USA international will likely want to remain in the English top-flight, and with Villa having money to spend, signing McKennie at Leeds’ expense would be a sweet way for Emery to land the midfielder, who could be an exceptional addition for the Villa Park side.
