Aston Villa are now happy to hold off on opening any talks with Ashley Young about a new contract until a later date. Unai Emery also wants to sign a new right-back even if he stays.
That is according to Birmingham Live, which reports that Emery has told Aston Villa that he wants to sign a new full-back regardless of Young’s contract. The 37-year-old is due to be a free agent from this summer. His existing £83k-a-week terms are set to expire on June 30.
Young is relaxed despite having an uncertain role at Villa Park in the long term. The Villans are also calm about the situation and will kick off negotiations when the right opportunity arises. But the two parties will convene to resolve his future before the end of the season.

Aston Villa have a new 12-month contract in mind for Ashley Young to sign
Prior reports by Birmingham Live had suggested that Aston Villa wanted to lock Young into a new, 12-month contract. The Villans have also already started to look into the future. He can have a future role at Bodymoor Heath for once the defender ultimately opts to retire.
The 39-cap former England midfielder is one of the oldest players in the Premier League. Only Thiago Silva of Chelsea, Lukasz Fabianski of West Ham United and Cristiano Ronaldo, then of Manchester United, have turned out in the top-flight this season older than Young.

Matty Cash has now taken over from Ashley Young at right-back once again
Young has faced a lesser role in Emery’s side over recent weeks after he fell behind Matty Cash at right-back. The veteran operator had emerged as the Spaniard’s favoured choice in the position after replacing Steven Gerrard. But the Poland star has now regained the role.
Emery has only fielded Young for 10 minutes across Aston Villa’s past four Premier League fixtures. The potential summer free agent, who Gerrard claimed can create ‘phenomenal’ moments, replaced Cash for the final 10 minutes of their 1-1 draw at West Ham last week.
The London Stadium stalemate marked the Stevenage native’s 19th Premier League game so far this season. He has played in 22 matches across all competitions for a total of 1,458 minutes. But neither Aston Villa nor Young are in a rush to discuss a possible new contract.
