Arsenal Training Session

Arsenal have enjoyed lots of success on the academy front in recent years.

Bukayo Saka came through the Hale End ranks to become a superstar for club and country.

Likewise, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson have all impressed for the Gunners.

Over the coming years, plenty more Arsenal academy graduates could potentially grace the senior ranks.

According to The Athletic, one of the youth setup’s top talents is actively being prepared for the first-team.

Academy right-back Reuell Walters has been going from strength to strength in the Arsenal ranks.

The 18-year-old has been taking part in first-team training sessions with the first-team.

Walters has also made the Arsenal bench for their last three Premier League games.

‘Preparation’

This week, The Athletic published an article about Walters’ early life and formative years in the game.

The outlet also looked at what Arsenal have in store for the talented prospect.

‘While most of his football education has come at right-back, it is unlikely he will be restricted to just that position,’ they wrote.

‘Benjamin White, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Oleksandr Zinchenko are all examples of how the first team benefit from versatility.

‘And that is the main goal: preparation for the moment he has to appear for the first team.

‘That is why he was on the bench away to Sporting CP as well as against Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Liverpool.

‘Thomas Partey moving to right-back at home to Crystal Palace may be a glimpse into Mikel Arteta’s Plan B if White becomes unavailable, but Walters is being prepped nonetheless.’

It’s great to see Arsenal earmark another young talent for the first team, and Walters is certainly a ‘tremendous‘ talent.

With Tomiyasu out injured, there’s a good chance Walters could feature once again in the matchday squad.

West Ham await the Gunners on Sunday.
