Aston Villa v Crystal Palace - Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur must qualify for the Champions League to secure the transfer of Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez. He must also become one of the most expensive goalkeepers.

That is according to Dean Jones, who reports that Martinez will only consider leaving Aston Villa to step up a level. The 30-year-old is happy in Birmingham and is not pushing to leave in the summer. He also won the 2022 World Cup while on the claret-and-blue club’s books.

Tottenham are monitoring Martinez’s situation at Aston Villa as Spurs are interested in his transfer to replace Hugo Lloris. But the north London outfit accept the Argentina No1 has a raft of rival suitors. Chairman Daniel Levy must also pay a sky-high fee for the shot-stopper.

How much does Aston Villa want to sell Emiliano Martinez to Tottenham?

Aston Villa believe Martinez is now worth around £60m following his World Cup successes in Qatar. As well as helping Argentine lift their first FIFA title since 1986, he took home the Golden Glove. But by doing so, the Villans are open-minded about cashing in on his status.

Villa Park chiefs also know they are in a strong position with the 26-cap star under contract until 2027. He only signed a new deal with the claret-and-blue club in January 2022 after a solid first 18 months. Aston Villa had signed the goalkeeper from Arsenal in 2020 for £17m.

Manchester United may rival Spurs for the shot-stopper’s transfer this summer

Aston Villa believe they can demand a sky-high fee from Tottenham for Martinez’s transfer after Liverpool and Chelsea’s moves for Alisson Becker and Kepa Arrizabalaga in 2018. The Reds paid Roma £67m for the Brazilian before the Blues then paid £71m to Athletic Bilbao.

The Daily Mail has already reported that Aston Villa view Alisson and Arrizabalaga’s moves as the benchmark for Martinez’s valuation. While reports by CalcioMercatoWeb also claim interest from Manchester United in the Mar del Plata native replacing David de Gea there.

Martinez, who Red Devils hero Gary Neville considered ‘absolutely amazing’ at the World Cup, has seven clean sheets this season. He has also conceded 31 goals across 23 Premier League appearances so far. While the Argentine also kept three shut-outs whilst in Qatar.
