Report: Tottenham Hotspur want to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan

Tottenham Hotspur want Mike Maignan and are considering a move for the AC Milan goalkeeper as a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.

That’s according to Football London, who claim that Maignan is one of a number of goalkeepers on the Tottenham radar.

It’s stated that Tottenham have been tracking Maignan for a long time now, even going back to when he left the Paris Saint-Germain ranks for Lille.

That was back in 2015 as Maignan traded Paris Saint-Germain B for Lille’s second team – and the Frenchman has become a star since.

After racking up nearly 200 appearances for Lille, Maignan moved on to AC Milan in the summer of 2021, replacing Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Injuries have been a problem this season but Maignan is one of the top goalkeepers in Europe right now.

Maignan is only 27 and should have his best years ahead of him, but convincing Milan to sell him will be a tough task.

Mike Maignan could replace Hugo Lloris for Tottenham and France

Tottenham may well have held a considerable interest in Maignan when Nuno Santos came in as goalkeeping coach under Jose Mourinho.

Maignan worked closely with Santos at Lille and was emotional when he departed for Spurs in 2019.

A move to sign Maignan back then made sense and Tottenham now face paying a much higher price this summer.

The irony of a move for Maignan would be that he could replace Hugo Lloris for club and country.

Lloris has already outlined that Maignan is the man to replace him between the sticks for the French national team.

The Spurs goalkeeper clearly rates Maignan highly and thinks he is ‘destined’ to be France’s number one moving forward.

Lloris now 36 and having already stepped aside for Maignan with France, the same could soon happen at Tottenham.

Hailed as ‘excellent’ by Milan boss Stefano Pioli, Maignan would be a real coup for Tottenham as they push for a new goalkeeper this summer.
