Tottenham Hotspur have looked into the idea of appointing Marcelo Gallardo as their new manager, but he isn’t the top target.
This is according to Football London and Alasdair Gold, who claims that Tottenham have ‘definitely’ considered Gallardo.
Gold notes that he can’t rule Gallardo out of the race entirely but gets the sense he isn’t a leading contender right now.
Gallardo hasn’t really been mentioned for the Tottenham job until this point and it seems other managers are higher on the list of priorities right now.
Marcelo Gallardo’s managerial record is impressive
Gallardo started his managerial career in Uruguay with Nacional, winning 23 of his 39 games in charge.
Gallardo only stayed there for a year though and took two years out of the game before returning to River Plate.
Having enjoyed three spells at River as a player, Gallardo already had hero status at El Monumental – and it has only grown.
Gallardo managed a staggering 424 games as River boss, winning 228 times whilst losing only 85.
Not only did Gallardo win a league title but he won two Copa Libertadores crowns too, alongside a host of other trophies.

Gallardo is a former teammate of Mauricio Pochettino
Tottenham fans have been desperate for former boss Mauricio Pochettino to make a triumphant return to North London.
That doesn’t seem likely at this point though as Spurs don’t quite appear to have a huge interest in a Pochettino comeback.
