Crystal Palace are now considering a move for Ray Lewington to assist Paddy McCarthy after opting to sack Patrick Vieira.
What’s the story?
Well – according to the South London Press – the Eagles are keen to bring experienced coaches to Selhurst Park as they aim to stay in the Premier League.
As a result, Crystal Palace are considering a move to bring Lewington back to SE25.
The 66-year-old worked as No.2 to Roy Hodgson before Vieira was hired in July 2021, and actually took over as Caretaker Manager for Crystal Palace back in 1998.
It is said that Steve Parish is keen to surround McCarthy with experienced coaches – Lewington is an option due to the fact players and the club’s hierarchy think very highly of him.
The South London Press add that Hodgson is also under serious consideration for a return on an interim basis.

Crystal Palace currently find themselves just three points above the relegation zone after a disastrous start to 2023.
The Eagles are yet to win a game in any competition so far in 2023 and recently became the first team on record to go three Premier League games without having a shot on target – according to Opta.

Lewington return would signal panic from Crystal Palace
When news broke that Vieira had been sacked, it was expected that Crystal Palace already had a replacement lined up.
However, talk of a return for Hodgson and Lewington suggests Steve Parish has hit the panic button, and didn’t hand the Frenchman his P45 with a proper plan of action in mind.
The Guardian believe Ralph Hasenhuttl is also an option to replace Vieira, which would signal a more sensible decision as the Austrian is likely to get Crystal Palace’s attack firing, which is the main issue right now.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen at Selhurst Park.
