Arsenal transfer news: Gunners could now move very quickly to sign

Arsenal have expressed a firm interest in signing Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha on a free transfer this summer.

That is according to a report from Foot Mercato as they look at Zaha’s options.

It’s suggested that Arsenal are ‘in the running’ for Zaha and have made their interest known.

The Gunners do face competition though as Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and even AS Monaco are all interested.

Monaco seems an unlikely destination though as Zaha wants to play in the Champions League.

That also means that a move to the Middle East isn’t particularly attractive to Zaha.

Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad have shown an interest and offered big money, but Zaha isn’t keen.

Wilfried Zaha was a boyhood Arsenal fan

Arsenal’s interest would surely be just what Zaha wants to hear.

Zaha was allegedly a boyhood Arsenal fan and his brother Judicael was quoted in 2019 as saying the winger dreams of wearing the famous red and white shirt.

Now coming to the end of his Palace contract, Zaha will be allowed to move on for absolutely nothing.

That may well appeal to Arsenal as they look to build out their squad ahead of their Champions League return.

Zaha may be into his 30’s now but Arsenal struck a deal for Jorginho in January, showing that age isn’t a problem.

If Bayern, Dortmund, Monaco and Arsenal all put offers on the table for Zaha, you would imagine the Gunners would be his pick.

What about Newcastle United?

Claims of Arsenal’s interest come amid suggestions of a move to Newcastle United.

The Daily Star report that Newcastle have a ‘long-running’ interest in Zaha and they are at the front of the queue for him this summer.

The Magpies are looking for another winger this summer and Zaha is allegedly near the top of Eddie Howe’s wish list.

Newcastle may well have Champions League football and big money to offer, so Arsenal could face a fight for the Ivorian star.
